St. John’s Passion

Those of you who have sung with us over the past few years will know this event is a long-awaited one! Covid and more covid has meant we have had to postpone Bach’s masterpiece more than once…However we are delighted to now confirm we will be performing it, in Bath Abbey on March 16th 2024.

We are incredibly excited - not least because we will be welcoming Sir James Gilchrist, singing the role of the Evangelist!

The St John Passion was written in the first year of Bach’s tenure as music director of Leipzig’s St. Thomas Church. It was first performed on Good Friday, April 7, 1724 at nearby St. Nicholas Church. The work was revised and changed for subsequent performances in 1725, 1732, and 1749.
