In Benjamin Britten’s centenary year, we will immerse ourselves for a weekend in his great War Requiem, under the expert guidance of our music director Gavin Carr who is himself a noted interpreter of the baritone solo role. In this masterclass and workshop, we will rehearse the choruses and watch as Gavin works on the solos with three rising young singers, culminating in an informal performance of the whole work with piano on the Sunday afternoon. (Admission to the performance is £5, it starts at 3.30 pm, and it will be worth hearing!)
Late News: We are delighted to announce that we will also be honoured by the participation of the great baritone John Shirley-Quirk, who worked extensively with Britten and who will share his own insights about the work in conversation with Gavin Carr on Saturday afternoon.
If you have never had the chance to sing this challenging piece, or if you would like to explore it in more depth, we invite you to join us for this weekend. Last summer’s workshop on Bach’s St John Passion was a memorable event and this will be too! The cost is only £30 for the full weekend, plus £5 if you need us to hire a score for you.
Full details are on the attached flyer, which you can download as a pdf (simply click on it). Or call Joanna Wiesner on 01225 444190.
If you are already attending this weekend. full instructions for joining with a map can be found here..
An important detail: When booking, please let us know whether you will need us to hire a score for you (£5) or if you will be bringing your own. You will need to have the ‘Vocal Score’, not the ‘Choral Score’.
